William was killed during the battle of the hamlet of Voorheide, Belgium. He was initially buried there.

From the service records of William Christopher Gibson, the following account can be reconstructed.

William Christopher Gibson was born on 11 December 1917 in Belfast, County Antrim. Before the war he worked as a railway goods porter. He was not married.

He enlisted in the British Army on 13 June 1940 and joined the South Staffordshire Regiment. On 20 August 1944 he was transferred to the South Wales Borderers / Monmouthshire Regiment.

William Christopher Gibson embarked for service in North West Europe on 27 June 1944.

According to his service records, he was 5 feet 9¾ inches tall, with dark brown hair and blue eyes.

William Christopher Gibson was killed in action on 24 September 1944.
