Born 23 august 1919, Bootle. Died during the battles around the village of Best and initially buried there.
From surviving service records, the following outline of Edward John Farrell’s life and military service can be reconstructed.
Edward John Farrell was born on 23 August 1909 in St James, Bootle, Liverpool, Lancashire. Before enlistment he worked as a clerk in the timber trade. He was not married. His physical description records him as being 5 feet 6 inches tall, with blue eyes and dark brown hair.
He enlisted in the British Army on 5 June 1939 and served with the Royal Artillery.
On 5 September 1944 he was wounded, but he remained on duty despite his injuries. Later that month, on 27 September 1944, Edward John Farrell was killed in action.
