My Grandfather Arthur Grocutt is buried here.
He volunteered to go back to Holland to help assist the younger men. He had already been over previously. Sadly he did not make it back.

My Mother was 2 when he passed away. She is almost 83 now and we had a trip over in March to visit the grave and the surrounding area. I will enclose a few photos. Some are from our recent visit, one is of Arthur as a younger man and the other is of my Grandma Amy visiting a couple of years I believe after my Grandfather was killed.

From surviving service records, the following outline of Arthur Grocutt’s life and military service can be reconstructed.

Arthur Grocutt was born on 18 January 1909 in Wednesbury, Staffordshire. Before enlistment he worked as a crane driver. He married Amy Muriel Hurriman on 8 April 1939, and together they had three children. His physical description records him as being 5 feet 4¼ inches tall, with brown eyes and dark brown hair.

He enlisted in the British Army on 28 March 1930 and joined the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.

He served overseas in India from 24 November 1931 until 29 November 1937. During the early stages of the Second World War he served with the British Expeditionary Force in France from 2 October 1939 until 31 May 1940.

Arthur Grocutt embarked for service in North West Europe on 24 June 1944.

He was killed in action on 21 September 1944.
