From surviving service records, the following outline of Kenneth John Saunders’ life and military service can be reconstructed.

Kenneth John Saunders was born on 1 May 1925 in Stoke Newington, London. Before his enlistment he worked as a cashier. He was unmarried. His physical description records him as being 6 feet ¼ inch tall, with blue-grey eyes and fair hair.

He entered military service on 16 July 1943 and was first posted to the Royal Berkshire Regiment. On 3 November 1943 he was transferred to the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. On 1 July 1944 he joined the Royal Scots.

Kenneth John Saunders embarked for North West Europe on 27 June 1944. On 24 September 1944 he was placed on the X List, which strongly suggests that he had been wounded in action. He subsequently died of wounds on 3 October 1944.
