From the service records of Frank Ashworth, the following account can be reconstructed.
Frank Ashworth was born on 15 May 1920 in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire. In civilian life he worked as an inker, embosser, and colour mixer. He enlisted in the British Army on 26 July 1940 and joined The King’s Regiment.
Frank Ashworth was not married.
He embarked for service in North West Europe on 2 June 1944. On 24 July 1944 he was transferred to the Lancashire Fusiliers, and on 26 August 1944 he was posted to the Highland Light Infantry.
According to his service records, he was 5 feet 5¾ inches tall, with black hair and hazel eyes.
Frank Ashworth died of wounds on 23 September 1944.
