Ernest was born in 1923, Bristol , U.K. He died in the opening battle of Market Garden, on the road toward Valkenswaard.

From the service records of Ernest Harold Bray, the following account can be reconstructed.

Ernest Harold Bray was born on 9 June 1923 in Bedminster, Bristol. He was described as being 5 feet 5 inches tall, with brown eyes and dark brown hair. He was unmarried.

He enlisted in the British Army on 29 January 1942 and joined the Dorsetshire Regiment. On 14 June 1944, he was sent overseas and transferred to the Devonshire Regiment as part of the preparations for the campaign in North-West Europe.

Ernest Harold Bray was killed in action on 17 September 1944.
