Reginald Percy Davies was born on 26 May 1926. In civilian life, before enlisting, he was a schoolboy. He was described as being 5 feet 3 inches tall, with grey eyes and dark brown hair.

He enlisted in the British Army on 14 February 1923. For his exemplary service, he was awarded a Clasp to his Efficiency Medal and received Certificates for Gallantry and Good Service on 26 January 1943. He married Violet Mary Reese, and the couple had three children.

Reginald was sent to North-West Europe on 20 June 1944 as part of the Allied campaign following the Normandy landings.
