Stanley Gordon Dawson was born on 26 February 1919. In civilian life, he worked in administration and office furnishing. His military career began on 21 November 1940, when he enlisted in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (R.E.M.E.) under service number 7652265, serving with the unit for over three years.
On 25 February 1944, he was posted to Aldershot to undergo officer training for the Royal Fusiliers. Later that year, during active operations following the Allied liberation of Western Europe, he was wounded in action on 26 September 1944 and succumbed to his injuries that same day.
