Son of Alfred Leopold and Adeline French; husband of Dorothy Daisy Lily French, of Kilburn, Middlesex.

Born in July 1911, Pontypridd, Glamorgan. e was wounded on the 5th of october  and died of his wounds at the field hospital in the village of Meerveldhoven. He was initially buried there.

From the service records of Ernest David George French, the following account can be reconstructed.

Ernest David George French was born on 29 June 1911 in Ynyshir, Rhondda, Glamorgan. In civilian life he worked as a painter and decorator. He was described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.

He enlisted in the British Army on 29 November 1929 in London, joining the East Lancashire Regiment. His early military career included overseas service in China from 3 January 1933 until 28 December 1936. From 13 January 1937 until 31 August 1939, he served in the Army Reserve.

On 28 August 1937, Ernest married Dorothy Daisy Hilly Symart in Willesden. The couple had no children.

During the Second World War, Ernest was shipped to North-West Europe on 27 June 1944. On 1 September 1944, he was transferred to the Highland Light Infantry.

Ernest David George French died of wounds on 5 October 1944.
