From the service records of James Griffin, the following account can be reconstructed.

James Griffin was born on 19 January 1921 in Liverpool. He was described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall, with blue eyes and dark brown hair. He was married but had no children.

He enlisted in the British Army on 11 April 1939, joining the Seaforth Highlanders. On 29 April 1941, he was transferred to the Royal Army Service Corps, where he served as a driver.

James saw extensive overseas service during the war. He served in the Middle East from 28 September 1941 until 9 September 1943, followed by service in North Africa from 10 September 1943 until 6 January 1944.

On 10 June 1944, James was deployed to North-West Europe as part of the Allied campaign following the Normandy landings.

James Griffin died of wounds on 29 September 1944.
