Killed near the village of Best where he was initially buried.
From the service records of Frank Groom, the following account can be reconstructed.
Frank Groom was born on 31 December 1922 in Slough, Buckinghamshire. In civilian life he worked as a baker’s roundsman. He enlisted in the British Army on 15 January 1942 and joined the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.
His service records note that he served as a driver, attached to the Motor Transport Section, H Company, 1st Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. On 19 September 1944 he was transferred to the King’s Own Scottish Borderers.
Frank Groom embarked for service in North West Europe on 14 July 1944.
According to his service records, he was 5 feet 8½ inches tall, with brown hair and hazel eyes.
Frank Groom was killed in action on 22 September 1944.
