From the service records it appears that Frank George Johnson was born on 15 January 1926 in Birmingham, Warwickshire. Before joining the army he worked as a pipe fitter’s mate. He was not married. Johnson was 5 feet 9¾ inches tall and had grey eyes and light brown hair.

He enlisted in the British Army on 5 November 1943 and was first posted to the General Service Corps for his initial training. In June 1944 he was transferred to the Dorset Regiment. Later, on 19 September 1944, he was transferred to the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles).

Johnson embarked for service in North-West Europe on 13 September 1944, joining the fighting during the later stages of the campaign in the Netherlands.

Private Frank George Johnson was killed in action on 9 October 1944. He was 18 years old. Like many young reinforcements sent to the front in the autumn of 1944, his time in the combat zone was tragically short.
