From the service records of Ernest Jones, the following account can be reconstructed.
Ernest Jones was born on 25 May 1925 in Birstall, Leeds. In civilian life he worked as a lime washer and painter.
He enlisted in the British Army on 20 May 1943 and joined the General Service Corps. On 1 July 1943 he was transferred to the Gordon Highlanders.
He married Marjorie Firth on 22 April 1944 in Bradford. The couple had no children.
According to his service records, he was 5 feet 4 inches tall, with brown hair and hazel eyes.
Ernest Jones died of wounds on 26 September 1944.
