From the service records of William Arthur Lloyd, the following account can be reconstructed.
William Arthur Lloyd was born on 16 August 1921 in Wellington, Salop. He was described as being 5 feet 9½ inches tall, with blue eyes and fair hair.
He enlisted in the British Army on 19 February 1942, joining the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry.
William was deployed to North-West Europe on 15 June 1944 as part of the Allied campaign following the Normandy landings.
He was killed in action on 20 September 1944.
