Initially buried at the cemetery of the Roman Catholic church of the village of Bergeijk.

From the service records of Robert Dixon Lowes, the following account can be reconstructed.

Robert Dixon Lowes was born on 27 April 1918 in Winlaton, near Newcastle, Northumberland. He was described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall, with blue eyes and brown hair.

He enlisted in the British Army on 15 January 1940, joining the Border Regiment. During the early part of the Second World War, he served with the British Expeditionary Force in France from 20 May 1940 until 30 June 1940.

On 11 November 1939, Robert married Elisabeth Helen Brown in Chopwell. The couple had no children.

Robert was deployed to North-West Europe on 1 June 1944. On 1 August 1944, he was transferred to the East Lancashire Regiment.

Robert Dixon Lowes was killed in action on 22 September 1944.
