Born on 26-7-1916, Londonderry. Killed in accident and initially buried at the village of Oerle.
From the service records of Andrew MacIlhinney, the following account can be reconstructed.
Andrew MacIlhinney was born on 22 April 1916 in Londonderry, County Derry. In civilian life he worked as a clerk. He enlisted in the British Army on 3 January 1934 and joined the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.
He served overseas in India from 11 December 1935 until 14 April 1940.
Andrew MacIlhinney married Monica Jane Alcock on 26 November 1941 in Walwill, Devon. The couple had no children.
He embarked for service in North West Europe on 24 June 1944.
According to his service records, he was 5 feet 8 inches tall, with fair hair and blue eyes.
Andrew MacIlhinney was killed in a battle accident on 29 September 1944.
