From the service records of Robert Percy Manley, the following account can be reconstructed.

Robert Percy Manley was born on 22 February 1916 in Canton, Cardiff, Glamorgan. In civilian life he worked as a concrete mixer. He was described as being 5 feet 8 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.

He enlisted in the British Army on 15 March 1940. On 14 October 1935, Robert married Louise Jose in Cardiff. The couple had three children.

Robert Percy Manley was killed in action on 22 September 1944.
