Son of Herbert Richard and Mary Mason, of Connah’s Quay, Flintshire; husband of Marry Ann Mason, of Connah’s Quay.

His father served from the  12th September 1914.  He was Killed in France 19th November 1916.
James died during the battle for the town of Reusel and was initially buried at Hoofdstraat 46, Reusel.

From the service records of James Albert Mason, the following account can be reconstructed.

James Albert Mason was born on 5 April 1910 in Connah’s Quay, near Chester. He was a family man: on 4 April 1931 he married Mary Ann Garbett, and together they had five children. Physically he was described as 5 feet 9½ inches tall, with hazel eyes and brown hair.

He enlisted in the British Army on 15 April 1943. Shortly afterwards, on 27 May 1943, he was posted to the Royal Welch Fusiliers (RWF).

James was sent to North-West Europe, arriving in the operational area on 13 July 1944, following the Allied landings in Normandy. There he took part in the heavy fighting that marked the summer and early autumn of the campaign.

James Albert Mason was killed in action on 25 September 1944.

He is remembered as a husband and father of five who served in the Royal Welch Fusiliers and lost his life during the liberation of Western Europe in the final year of the Second World War.
