Born 17 oct 1914, Elgin, Moray. Died of wounds at the fieldhospital in the village of Meerveldhoven were he was initially buried.
From the service records of Ronald McKinnon, the following story can be told.
Ronald McKinnon was born on 17 October 1914 in Elgin, Moray, Scotland. At the time of his enlistment for military service on 15 May 1939, he worked as a motor driver. He was described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall, with green eyes and dark brown hair.
He was initially posted to the Seaforth Highlanders. On 9 March 1940, he married Jean Heleen Smith in Lossiemouth, where the couple also made their home.
On 14 February 1941, Ronald was wounded as a result of enemy action. Shortly afterwards, on 19 June 1941, he was transferred to the Royal Army Service Corps, where he served as a driver. Later in the war, on 30 August 1944, he was transferred again, this time to the Royal Welsh Fusiliers.
Ronald McKinnon died of his wounds on 2 September 1944.
