Died during a German bombing raid on the liberated city of Eindhoven. Robert was initially buried at Eindhoven in a garden of the house Lijmbeekstraat 340.

From surviving service records, the following outline of Robert Briggs Mitton’s life and military service can be reconstructed.

Robert Briggs Mitton was born on 24 August 1908 in Habergham Eaves, Burnley, Lancashire. Before enlistment he worked as a motor driver. He married Gladys Doreen Mitton in Burnley on 26 December 1931; the marriage remained without children. His physical description records him as being 5 feet 1⅗ inches tall, with brown eyes and brown hair.

He enlisted in the British Army on 27 November 1941 and joined the Royal Army Service Corps.

Robert Briggs Mitton was killed in action on 19 September 1944.
