Additional information:
Son of William Edmund and Maude Moore, of Douglas, Isle of Man; husband of Gladys Frances Moore, of Douglas.

Initially buried at the church yard of the Roman Catholic Church of the village of Bergeijk.

From the service records of George Herbert Moore, the following account can be reconstructed.

George Herbert Moore was born on 5 August 1911 in St Thomas, near Douglas on the Isle of Man. In civilian life he worked as a building labourer. He was described as being 5 feet 6⅜ inches tall, with blue eyes and light brown hair.

He enlisted in the British Army on 12 September 1940 and initially joined the Lancashire Fusiliers. On 9 October 1940, he was posted to the East Lancashire Regiment.

On 18 April 1943, George married Gladys Francis Kaighen in St Thomas. The couple had no children.

George was sent overseas on 17 July 1944 to serve in North-West Europe. He was killed in action on 23 September 1944.

His service records mark the end of a working man’s life lost during the fierce fighting of the autumn of 1944.
