Son of James and Kate Moriarty, of Llanrwst, Denbighshire.
Initially buried at the village of Oerle.
John Moriarty was my uncle, he was my mother’s eldest brother. John was a twin his sister Nancy is still alive at a good age of 95!
There were 3 other sisters kathleen who sadly passed away 4 years ago,she would be 91now Johanna who is 93 & my mother Nellie who passed away 2 years ago & would be 89.
They lived in a little village above Llanrwst called Capel Garmon in a small 2 up 2 down house. Kate my grandmother was Welsh & James hdr husband was Irish. There is a cenotaph in Capel Garmon to reme uncle John, I go up regularly with flowers.
From the service records of John Moriarty, the following account can be reconstructed.
John Moriarty was born on 6 November 1924 in Capel Garmon, near Llanrwst, Denbighshire.
He enlisted in the British Army on 4 March 1943 and joined the General Service Corps. On 15 April 1943 he was transferred to the Royal Welch Fusiliers.
John Moriarty embarked for service in North West Europe on 29 June 1944.
According to his service records, he was 5 feet 6¼ inches tall, with black hair and grey eyes.
John Moriarty was killed in action on 21 September 1944.
