Born 9-2-1918, Ardwick, Manchester. Killed during the battles around the village of Reusel and initially buried at Hoofdstraat 60, Reusel.
From the service records of William Neild, the following account can be reconstructed.
William Neild was born on 9 February 1918 in Ardwick, Manchester. In civilian life he worked as a chair-frame maker. He was described as being 5 feet 8½ inches tall, with blue eyes and brown hair.
He enlisted in the British Army on 1 December 1939, joining the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Shortly before his enlistment, on 28 October 1939, he married Janet Stenhouse in Manchester. The couple had one child.
William was sent to North-West Europe on 24 June 1944 as part of the Allied campaign following the Normandy landings.
William Neild was killed in action on 24 September 1944.
