From the service records of James Ramsay, the following account can be reconstructed.

James Ramsay was born on 23 October 1924 in Aye, Ayrshire. In civilian life he worked as a grain miller. He was single and described as 5 feet 3 inches tall, with grey eyes and light brown hair.

He enlisted on 17 June 1943 with the PTW (likely a local Territorial or training unit). On 29 July 1943, he joined the Royal Scots Fusiliers. James was deployed to North-West Europe on 12 June 1944, shortly after the Normandy landings.

He was killed of wounds on 28 September 1944, during the fighting of the autumn campaign in North-West Europe.
