From the service records of Rupert Patrick Reynette-James, the following account can be reconstructed.
Rupert Patrick Reynette-James was born on 12 October 1923 in Woking, Surrey. Before his military service, he was a student. He was described as being 5 feet 9½ inches tall, with light brown hair. His records note an unusual feature: his right eye was brown, while his left eye was grey.
He enlisted in the British Army on 3 November 1941 and joined the Royal Artillery. Rupert was sent to North-West Europe on 12 June 1944 as part of the Allied advance following the Normandy landings.
On 26 September 1944, Rupert was severely wounded in the face and stomach. He later died of his wounds on the same day.
His service records reflect a young life brought to an abrupt end during the fighting in North-West Europe.
