From the available service records, the following outline of Norman Albert Sharman’s military service can be established.
Norman Albert Sharman enlisted in the British Army on 6 January 1944 and was initially posted to the General Service Corps. Before enlistment he worked as a fitter’s mate. He was not married.
He was described as being 5 feet 4½ inches tall, with blue eyes and fair hair.
During his training and early service he was transferred several times. On 7 February 1944 he was posted to the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment. This was followed by a transfer on 2 May 1944 to the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. On 29 June 1944 he joined the Durham Light Infantry, before being posted on 26 August 1944 to the Devonshire Regiment.
Norman Albert Sharman shipped for North West Europe on 24 June 1944. He was killed in action on 17 September 1944.
