Died of wounds at the fieldhospital in the village of Meerveldhoven and initially buried there.
From the service records of Harold George Thaxter, the following account can be reconstructed.
Harold George Thaxter was born on 9 April 1924 in Tilehurst, Berkshire. In civilian life he worked as a butcher’s assistant. He enlisted in the British Army on 15 October 1942 and joined the General Service Corps. On 25 November 1942 he was transferred to the Royal Armoured Corps.
Harold George Thaxter embarked for service in North West Europe on 16 July 1944.
According to his service records, he was 5 feet 5¼ inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Harold George Thaxter died of wounds on 22 September 1944.
