Additional Information:
Edward was born in December 1924, Wandsworth, Surrey, U.K. He was wounded near the Wilhelmina Canal, Oirschot the Netherlands. His original grave was at Oerle.

“I am hoping to visit the grave shortly and remembered your email. Edward lost his mother and his brother in the V2 rocket blast, their gravestone mentions Edward and I include a photo below;”

On 19-11-1944, a V2 missile hit 32 Hazelhurst Road, Lower Tooting in London. This was the house direct next to the Bushaway family who lived on nr. 34.
The missle attack killes Edward his mother and brother. His sister and father were severely wounded and became dissabled.

From surviving service records, the following outline of Edward John Bushaway’s life and military service can be reconstructed.

Edward John Bushaway was born on 30 August 1924 in Tooting, London. Before enlistment he worked as a milk roundsman. He was not married. His physical description records him as being 5 feet 10½ inches tall, with brown hair and blue eyes.

He enlisted in the British Army on 7 December 1942 and initially joined the General Service Corps. On 16 January 1943 he was posted to the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. Later, on 21 July 1944, he transferred to the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.

Edward John Bushaway embarked for service in North West Europe on 16 June 1944.

He was killed in action on 24 September 1944.
