Austin Carroll was born in September 1916. He was killed during the battle for the town of Reusel.
From the service records of Austin Thomas Carroll, the following account can be reconstructed.
Austin Thomas Carroll was born on 6 September 1915 in St Wilfred, Manchester, Lancashire. In civilian life he worked as a general labourer. He enlisted in the British Army on 10 January 1934 and joined the Lancashire Fusiliers.
He served overseas in China from 24 October 1938 until 31 March 1939, followed by service in India from 1 April 1939 until 8 April 1943.
Austin Thomas Carroll was not married.
He embarked for service in North West Europe on 27 June 1944.
According to his service records, he was approximately 5 feet 8½ inches tall, with blue eyes and brown hair.
Austin Thomas Carroll was killed in action on 25 September 1944.
