From the service records of Dallas Richard Compton, the following account can be reconstructed.

Dallas Richard Compton was born on 13 January 1925 in Ilford, Essex. In civilian life he worked as a meter collector. He was not married.

He enlisted in the British Army on 4 March 1943 and joined the General Service Corps. On the same date he was posted to the Royal Berkshire Regiment. He was later transferred to the Royal Sussex Regiment on 22 October 1943, and on 17 April 1944 to the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.

Dallas Richard Compton embarked for service in North West Europe on 24 June 1944.

According to his service records, he was 5 feet 6½ inches tall, with dark brown hair and blue eyes.

Dallas Richard Compton was killed in action on 21 September 1944.

Dallas was one of four brothers, three served in war, the youngest brother (Michael) was too young.  The photo above was taken in either April or May 1942.
