Arthur Meredith Cook probably got killed around Voorheide on the 24th of September.
The war diary for his regiments states for that day: 7 Other Ranks killed, 2 officer and 8 Other Ranks wounded. Lieutenant David Arthur Evans killed (also buried at Valkenswaard grave I.C.4.)
From the service records of Arthur Meredith Cook, the following account can be reconstructed.
Arthur Meredith Cook was born on 17 July 1917 in Bloxwich, Staffordshire. He was described as being 5 feet 3 inches tall, with blue-grey eyes and fair hair.
He enlisted in the British Army on 18 March 1940. On 21 December 1939, Arthur married Lilian Aden Minnie Cook in Walsall. The couple had one child.
Arthur was deployed to North-West Europe on 27 June 1944 as part of the Allied campaign following the Normandy landings. During the campaign, he was transferred on 14 August 1944 to the Norfolk Regiment, and later, to the South Wales Borderers / Monmouthshire Regiment.
Arthur Meredith Cook was killed in action on 24 September 1944.
