From the service records of Thomas Court, the following account can be reconstructed.
Thomas Court was born on 10 January 1913. In civilian life he worked as a sawyer. He was described as being 5 feet 5 inches tall, with grey eyes and brown hair.
He enlisted in the British Army on 12 February 1931, joining the 1st Battalion, The King’s Regiment. On 11 December 1937, he was transferred to the National Reserve and was called up again for active service on 16 August 1939.
On 4 June 1938, Thomas married Gladys Hayward in Liverpool. The couple had five children.
Thomas served overseas for much of his military career. He was posted to India from 21 February 1933 until 8 January 1938, followed by long service in Cyprus from 1 September 1939 until 3 July 1942.
He was deployed to North-West Europe on 4 June 1944. Later, on 31 August 1944, he was transferred to the Welch Regiment.
Thomas Court was killed in action on 22 September 1944.
