From the service records of Albert Dale, the following account can be reconstructed.
Albert Dale was born on 10 May 1915 in Nechells, Birmingham, Warwickshire. In civilian life he worked as a navvy. He enlisted in the British Army on 18 April 1940 and joined the Somerset Light Infantry. On 22 June 1940 he was transferred to the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, and on 13 April 1944 to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
He married Mildred Eldred on 19 July 1939 in Taunton. The couple had two children.
Albert Dale embarked for service in North West Europe on 1 June 1944.
According to his service records, he was 6 feet 2 inches tall, with fair hair and blue eyes.
Albert Dale was killed in action on 15 October 1944. His grave in Valkenswaard was visited by his widow in September 1948.
