Was initially buried near the field hospital at the village of Meerveldhoven.

From the service records of George Francis Gavan, the following account can be reconstructed.

George Francis Gavan was born on 23 April 1917. In civilian life he worked as a collier. He enlisted in the British Army on 19 March 1934, joining the Royal Welch Fusiliers as a boy soldier. He was embodied for active service on 2 September 1939.

He married Anne Burgess on 24 December 1937 in Wrexham. The couple had three children.

George Francis Gavan embarked for service in North West Europe on 3 September 1944.

According to his service records, he was 5 feet 6 inches tall, with dark brown hair and blue eyes.

George Francis Gavan was wounded in action on 27 September 1944 and died of his wounds on 29 September 1944.
