From the service records of John Stanley Gemmel, the following account can be reconstructed.

John Stanley Gemmel was born on 15 September 1911 in St Sylvester, Liverpool, Lancashire. In civilian life he worked as a processman. He enlisted in the British Army on 20 May 1943 and joined the General Service Corps.

He married Winifred Price on 4 July 1937 in Stowbridge, Wales. The couple had two children.

John Stanley Gemmell embarked for service in North West Europe on 19 June 1944.

According to his service records, he was 5 feet 5 inches tall, with auburn hair and blue eyes.

John Stanley Gemmell was killed in action on 23 September 1944.
