Son of Lawrence William and Maria Gray, of Bootle, Lancashire; husband of Kathleen Gray, of Bootle.

Born 27 November 1915. Married Kathleen Stafford on the 5th of August 1939. They would have several children. One of them, Albert is born in 1944 and dies in 1945.

The 2nd battalion Monmouthshire fought around the area of Voorheide on the 24th of September 1944. Joseph Gray was initially buried at Voorheiden the area where he was killed.

From the service records of Thomas Gray, the following account can be reconstructed.

Thomas Gray was born on 27 November 1915 in Bootle, Liverpool, Lancashire. Before the war he worked as a jobbing man, a general tradesman.

He first enlisted in the British Army on 5 April 1934, joining the King’s Regiment. He served with them until 4 April 1938. After a period as a civilian, he re-enlisted on 8 January 1942, this time with the Monmouthshire Regiment, later serving with the South Wales Borderers.

Thomas married Kathleen Stafford on 3 February 1939 in Bootle. Together they had two children.

He embarked for service in North West Europe on 25 June 1944.

According to his service records, Thomas was 5 feet 5 inches tall, with black hair and grey eyes.

Thomas Gray was killed in action on 24 September 1944.
