From the service records of Emrys Jones, the following account can be reconstructed.
Emrys Jones was born on 9 October 1919 in Llangendeirne, Carmarthenshire. Before the war he worked as a miner. He was unmarried. His physical description records him as 5 feet 7½ inches tall, with blue eyes and brown hair.
He enlisted in the Welch Regiment on 1 June 1939, shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War. Emrys was deployed to North-West Europe on 25 June 1944 as part of the Allied advance following the Normandy landings.
On 27 September 1944, Emrys Jones was reported missing in action. He was subsequently presumed killed in action on that same date.
