From the service records of Edwin Owen, the following account can be reconstructed.
Edwin Owen was born on 12 December 1920 in Chirk, Wrexham. In civilian life he worked as a labourer. He was described as being 5 feet 8½ inches tall, with brown eyes and dark brown hair. He was unmarried.
He enlisted in the British Army on 17 April 1939, joining the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Edwin was deployed to North-West Europe on 17 June 1944 as part of the Allied campaign following the Normandy landings.
On 30 September 1944, Edwin was severely wounded, suffering perforating wounds caused by blast injuries to his back and buttocks. He later died of his wounds on 2 October 1944.
His service records mark the loss of another young life during the fighting in North-West Europe.
