From the service records of Edward Rowan, the following account can be reconstructed.
Edward Rowan was born on 6 May 1908 in West Derby, Liverpool, Lancashire. In civilian life he worked as a farm labourer. He was described as being 5 feet 5 1/3 inches tall, with grey eyes and brown hair.
He enlisted in the British Army on 29 October 1929. During his service, he was stationed in Egypt from 14 October 1930 until 4 March 1932, and subsequently in India from 8 March 1932 until 22 February 1937. He was transferred to the Army Reserve on 23 February 1937, but was called back to active service on 30 August 1939. He married Margaret Junior on 22 May 1943 in Newport. He later joined the Royal Welch Fusiliers on 16 September 1944.
Edward was sent to North-West Europe as part of the Allied campaign following the Normandy landings.
Edward Rowan was killed in action on 23 September 1944.
