I. F. 4.

Joseph Seaton was killed near the bridge between Casteren and Netersel. Initially buried at the churchyard of the Roman Catholic church of Bergeijk.

Joseph left two young sons my father 5 years old and his brother 3 years and a widow. He was from Stepney in East London and had worked before the war on the railway. I have been to the cemetery many times and was proud to take my father to the bridge at Casteren only a couple years back before his own death only a year ago. He was immensely proud of his father and had a great respect for the Dutch people.

From the service records of Joseph Seaton, the following account can be reconstructed.

Joseph Seaton was born on 14 July 1915 in Poplar, London. In civilian life he worked as a capstanman. He enlisted in the British Army on 20 June 1940 and joined the Welch Regiment.

He married Suzannah Hoysden on 10 April 1937 in Poplar, London.

Joseph Seaton embarked for service in North West Europe on 25 June 1944.

According to his service records, he was 5 feet 9½ inches tall, with fair hair and blue eyes.

Joseph Seaton was killed in action on 22 September 1944.

Grandson Spencer Seaton and his son at the grave in 2017.
