George Tate was born on 25/9/1918 the son of Joseph Tate and Catherine Pulling. The family lived in Llandudno, North Wales. Joseph Tate served in the Lancashire Fusiliers in WW1 and was badly wounded. George attended Great Orme and Central schools and left the latter in 1933. At time of George’s death his parents were living at Marian Road, Llandudno.
From the service records of George Joseph Tate, the following account can be reconstructed.
George Joseph Tate was born on 25 September 1918 in Llandudo, Carmarthenshire. In civilian life he worked for the Llandudo Urban District Council. He enlisted in the British Army on 15 January 1940 and joined the Royal Welch Fusiliers.
He married Linda Jones on 2 December 1939 in the Conway Valley. The couple had no children.
George Joseph Tate embarked for service in North West Europe on 24 June 1944.
According to his service records, he was 5 feet 3½ inches tall, with dark brown hair and hazel eyes.
George Joseph Tate was killed in action on 21 September 1944.
