Patrick Leslie Whitehouse was initially buried at the cemetery T´Hof in Bergeyk.

Patrick Whitehouse is the one on the right on the bottom row. He boxed for his regiment and he was on the individual champions in 1935 in Hong Kong, where his regiment was stationed then.  He was 21 at the time.   The one on the same row on the left was his brother Len, who was on the same battalion in 1944 but survived.

From the service records of Patrick Leslie Whitehouse, the following account can be reconstructed.

Patrick Leslie Whitehouse was born on 29 April 1914 in Kildare, Ireland. He enlisted in the British Army on 6 September 1928 with the East Lancashire Regiment, joining as a “boy soldier” at the age of fourteen. At that time, his records note that he was 4 feet 8 inches tall. In civilian life he was described as a scholar.

During his military career, Patrick Leslie Whitehouse served overseas in China from 3 January 1933 until 10 January 1937, followed by service in India from 11 January 1937 until 1 April 1939. He later served with the British Expeditionary Force in France from 18 April 1940 until 18 June 1940.

He married Maud Maguire Saraja on 2 December 1940 in Holywood, County Down. The couple had one child.

Patrick Leslie Whitehouse embarked for service in North West Europe on 24 June 1944.

According to his service records, he had fair hair and brown eyes.

Patrick Leslie Whitehouse was killed in action on 22 September 1944.
