Son of Albert Thompson and of Mary Alice Thompson (nee Frost); husband of May Thompson (nee Williams), of Whitefield, Lancashire.

Died of wounds at the fieldhospital in the villgae of Meerveldhoven and initially buried there.

From the service records of Hammond Thompson, the following account can be reconstructed.

Hammond Thompson was born on 3 January 1919 in Salford, Lancashire. He was described as being 5 feet 9 inches tall, with grey eyes and dark brown hair.

He enlisted in the British Army on 16 October 1939, joining the South Lancashire Regiment. On 25 March 1944, he married May Williams in Whitfield, Heywood.

Hammond was sent to North-West Europe on 26 June 1944. During the campaign, on 26 August 1944, he was transferred to the Highland Light Infantry.

Hammond Thompson later died of wounds on 23 December 1944.
