From surviving service records, the following outline of Harry Turner’s life and military service can be reconstructed.

Harry Turner was born on 20 September 1904 in Shepherd’s Bush, London, Middlesex. Before enlistment he worked as a miner. He was not married. His physical description records him as being 5 feet 3¼ inches tall, with blue eyes and brown hair.

He enlisted in the British Army on 6 March 1924 and joined the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Shortly after enlistment he was posted overseas, serving in India from 7 October 1924 until 14 December 1931.

On 16 August 1941 he transferred to the Royal Artillery, serving with the 94th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment.

He embarked for service in North West Europe on 14 June 1944.

Harry Turner was killed in action on 19 September 1944.
